Tucked into the wooded hills of Cold Spring, this project began as a typical 1990s builder-grade home—practical in plan, but lacking the depth, character, and permanence our clients envisioned. In collaboration with Elizabeth Strianese Interiors, our goal was to reimagine the house as if it had always been there: layered, curated, and quietly custom. Every decision was guided by the pursuit of authenticity and warmth, transforming a once-generic structure into a home that feels collected over time rather than recently renovated. We were grateful to execute her design, as no detail was overlooked.

Natural materials became the foundation of the design language. We introduced extensive wood paneling, hand-selected wallpapers, and richly textured finishes to create depth and intimacy throughout. Reclaimed beams sourced from The Hudson Company were installed across the home, lending a sense of history and architectural gravity that grounds each space. Custom millwork—crafted both in our shop and alongside Rex Hill Studio —brought tailored detailing to nearly every room, from built-ins to trim profiles, ensuring continuity and craftsmanship at every turn.

The palette remained tactile and organic. Zellige tile, natural woods, wallpaper and soft textiles work together to create a lived-in elegance that feels both elevated and relaxed. Liz and the clients curated the furnishings and drapery with the same intention, selecting custom pieces that feel cohesive and timeless rather than decorative. The result is a home that reads as personal and enduring—refined without feeling precious.

Beyond the interiors, the project expanded the home’s function with a new construction garage and thoughtfully designed mudroom, seamlessly integrated to match the character of the renovated spaces. What began as a builder-grade house is now a deeply bespoke residence—one that reflects both the landscape of the Hudson Valley and the craftsmanship behind every TEKRA Builders project.
